Background

The University of California at Davis and © Intel Corporation are co-hosting an event and workshops, "Internet Innovation: Applications and Architectures, An Industry Perspective on Internet Research," June 19-20, 2007, at the Hilton Santa Clara.

Workshop attendees will explore the requirements and barriers challenging the Internet research community in the types of research and experimentation facilities required to develop an unconstrained Internet. Participants will also explore the innovation required to support future Internet applications. The event is open to all interested parties and will be publicized across the research community, with registration capped at 150 attendees.

The workshop sessions are open to all interested parties, however, registration is capped at 25 people per session.
Workshop Goals
The first of its kind, this workshop will bring together academic and industry researchers to explore the future of a next-generation Internet based on the National Science Foundation (NSF) Global Environment for Network Innovation (GENI) initiative. The workshop will also provide the opportunity to address the following questions:
  • From the industry perspective, what are the requirements for Future Internet Design (FIND), and how the can the GENI effort facilitate discussion between the industry and academic communities?
  • How can industry take advantage of the GENI capability to develop new ventures, services, or business models?
  • How can industry and academia collaborate to transition to a future Internet architecture?
  • What is industry's role in the construction of GENI itself, and how should GENI be built to support FIND experimentation?
